IntroductionThe Directorate of Sports arranges well organized sports and recreation programs/activities for the students and faculty/staff members on regular basis. Our sports activities are meant to provide quality fitness and conclusive environment that inspires participants to engage in competitive events on various levels, institutional, national and international. The main goal of sports activities is to provide plenty of opportunities to students to keep them healthy with desirable character and remarkable personality traits. ObjectivesThe goal of the Directorate of Sports is to improve the personal growth of the student body, by promoting good health practices. This is accomplished via the development and administration of sports programmes that focus on encouraging and maintaining a physically active lifestyle, through both individual and group activities. MissionPromotion of mental and physical health via quality facilities, equipment, and programs that offer a broad range of coordinated activities and instructional classes which complement the academic environment and accomplish basic human needs such as relaxation, socialization, and having fun. The UPR aims to use physical education and sports to make a constructive contribution to the development of those who participate, and to complement students’ academic training. Physical education and sports have a positive effect on study results and help in building a socially-oriented study environment. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure the good health of our students. The sports activities are geared to provide wide participation in intramural activities (within the students), extramural activities (among various faculties of the university) and inter-tertiary or varsity sports activities (representing UPR as an elite organization) in national sporting events. Teams for Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Hockey, Hiking and athletics are actively participating in the supporting events in the country. |
