Higher Education is imperative to the development of a nation and the Universities are considered to be the main source of higher education, research and human resources development. Nations with well developed, education and quality research systems aimed at meeting the growing challenges of scientific development to match and outpace their contemporaries, have gained prominence in the world. Research is really advancing the ‘state of knowledge’ something that will take one above and beyond the cutting edge technology or knowledge that we currently have, or lead to an economic and social benefits. Research and innovation should lead to value addition, and that is what one should focus on. Therefore, research is a fundamental tool for entering into the arena of latest knowledge and information based on local, social and industrial needs. The research must be aimed to cultivate a research culture among the researchers and scientists of the country. The latest research in general and the research in science and technology in particular can lead to provide fuel to education towards national development.

Keeping this in view, the University of Poonch Rawalakot, Azad Jammu & Kashmir established the Directorate of Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in 2012. The mandate of the ORIC is to provide end to end services for all matters pertaining to research & development, innovation, Inventions, commercialization, patents, collaborations, arranging seminars/ colloquia/ symposium/ conferences/ workshops, etc. By and large ORIC is the focal point for all research related activities of the University. ORIC facilitates the University researchers (faculty members and scholars) to promote their research work both nationally and internationally.
