Welcome to the University of Poonch

  The University of Poonch was established as an institute in 1980 in Rawalakot, to expand the horizon of Agricultural Technology and to give productive incentives for agricultural development in the area. It was upgraded to University in February 2012. In achieving this benchmark of a fully autonomous university, it has encountered many barriers and now it comprises of two faculties, namely Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. There are over 10 departments also including Computer Sciences, Eastern Medicines and Surgery, Administrative Sciences. The university faculty consists of more than 82 highly qualified and distinguished teachers; many of them have obtained higher degrees from renowned international organizations and institutions.Higher education is an essential component for the progress of a society and we provide this component to the individuals by providing accessible opportunities resulting in research and knowledge production, and also helpful for achieving the highest potential in life. The advancement in Information Technology gives a cutting edge to the vision of University of Poonch and our ultimate focus rests on achieving excellence in a host of contemporary and emerging fields of Information Technology.

The University of Poonch Rawalakot although is passing through its infancy but has long history of excellence as a Faculty of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. One of the unique features of the university is its Faculty not only in term of qualification but also its diversity with global essence.  The faculty having exposure to Europe, North America, Russia, China, Malaysia, Japan and Brazil exhibited excellence in research quality, publications, postgraduate training and scientific discourse. The alumni of the faculty are presently teaching at Florida, Illinois, England and of course in Pakistan at various institutions apart from active participation in civil and military organization. 

The visionary faculty of the University of Poonch, Rawalakot is not sitting idol or in isolation keep watch on new developments and opening up new vistas of discourse by planning new disciplines and frontiers of knowledge to keep the students abreast with the global developments.

A well discipline and peaceful environment with nature-gifted weather is our asset for grooming the youth for serving the humanity at large. The extramural activities are also being provided for healthy and inter-personal development.

VC's Profile

Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Khan S.I, a distinguished academician and engineer, was born in 1944, received early education in Military College Jhelum, got engineering degree from UET Dacca and became Lecturer, Asst Prof and Assoc Prof at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore [’68- ‘81] where he rendered distinguished services in developing Department of Metallurgy and Material Sciences as its Chairman and did pioneering work in establishing the first-ever Graduate Program in Pakistan in this discipline. He served as member of Selection Board, Academic Council and Senate He went to The University of Birmingham, UK to earn M Sc and PhD degrees in engineering on 'Commonwealth Universities Academic Staff Scholorship' [‘71-‘75].

He held important professional positions including representation of Pakistan on the International Board of Editors for AFS International Cast Metals Journal, USA, was on the Editorial Board of the ‘Pakistan Metallurgist’ and Newsletter of Pakistan Institute of Metallurgical Engineers and was the President of Northern Chapter of the Institute for three years. Currently he is the Vice President of PMRS.
Dr Khan served as Assoc Prof at the King Saud university Riyadh [‘81-’91] and Pakistan Atomic Commission for a brief period before joining the GIK Institute as consultant in June ‘92. Because of his pre-eminent status as an engineer-academician, he was associated with the planning and development of the GIK Institute and later as Professor in ‘93, Dean in ‘95 and Pro-Rector in ‘95. As Professor and Dean he supervised the development of state-or-art laboratories in the field of engineering and his involvement in major research projects is substantial. He also made significant research contributions in understanding the behavior of engineering materials and offered consulting advice to a number of industrial concerns.
He was Pro-Rector (Acad.) of the GIK Institute during its crucial formative period of development [‘95-‘99] and planned, developed and started the graduate programs at the Institute. He was working as Dean Students Affairs when on the request of the President of AJ&K he joined The Multidiscipline University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir as Vice Chancellor in ‘03.
While at the University of AJ&K [‘03-‘07], he introduced semester system in all disciplines, introduced new degree programs of study, added a number of M Phil and PhD programs and significantly contributed to development of the university in general and its faculty development in particular.
The university of AJ&K had its share of the tragic and total devastation caused by the ‘05- earthquake. Dr Khan, emerging from a state of desolation, acted as the chief anchor and commenced the long and challenging process of recovery with fortitude and unflinching commitment maintaining continuity of the academic fiber without any loss of the precious time of the students.
In view of his outstanding achievements in the field of engineering education and value able services to premium educational institutions, Professor Khan was awarded the prestigious civil award Sitara-i-Imtiaz in ‘04 by the President of Pakistan.
Dr Khan was Rector Foundation University, Islamabad [’08-'12] which is a multidiscipline University offering BA, B Sc, MA, M Sc, MS, M Phil and PhD in Engineering, Management, Education, Arts, Sciences and Medicine.
