The Main campus of University of Poonch Rawalakot is located in the heart of district Poonch, Rawalakot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The valley of Rawalakot exhibits the fabulous beauty of breath taking scenes in the foot hills of lower Himalayans. The snowy tops of the mountains embracing the clouds and lush green valleys offer the scenes of heaven on earth. The pleasant weather in summer makes the "University of Poonch" the most beautiful venue for academic and research activities. The University of Poonch was established as an institute in 1980 at Rawalakot, to expand the horizon of Agricultural Technology and to give productive incentives for agricultural development in the area. It was upgraded to University in February 2012. In achieving this benchmark of a fully autonomous university, it has encountered many barriers and now it comprises of seven faculties. The university faculty consists of more than 82 highly qualified and distinguished teachers; many of them have obtained higher degrees from renowned international organizations and institutions. Higher education is an essential component, impating hight quality of edcuation for the progress of a society and extend this component to the individuals by providing accessible opportunities resulting in research and knowledge production, and also helpful for achieving the highest potential in life. The advancement in Information Technology gives a cutting edge to the vision of University of Poonch and our ultimate focus rests on achieving excellence in a host of contemporary and emerging fields of Information Technology.

Department of Geology

The Department offers BS Geology. The Department is unearthing and exploiting the natural resources of the country and is playing an important role in socio-economic uplift of the country. The Department also takes pride in being one of the main sources for feeding to the research organizations, industry and thus is fulfilling its responsibility of increasing the professional and skilled workforce of the country.

Specific inquiry and analysis of educational issues is the hallmark of the department and our faculty remains actively engaged in introducing modern teaching strategies. The Department of Education offers extra ordinary professional development opportunities to individuals who are interested to become efficient educationist. Our trainings program helps one develop specializations in Basic & Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Biological sciences, Physical sciences and the Humanities. Bachelor of Education (B.Ed Honours & Associate Degree)

BEd (4 years) program's focus on education and training of prospective teachers grows out of a profound belief in the transformative power of education. Our mission is to promote the development of highly qualified and efficient teaching professionals who are prepared to creatively contribute to the social, cultural, and educational development of a globally oriented, pluralistic, and diverse society. BEd (4 years) program will be a composite program blending Core Courses, Foundation Courses, Professional Courses, and Specialization Courses. In addition to strengthening content-specific knowledge of the students, courses are offered for bringing about pedagogical knowledge, skills and attitudinal change amongst the learners for developing an understanding of child psychology, creative abilities of children, and using child-centred inquiry based teaching for student learning and development. The teacher trained through new program will be able to teach at Secondary and Higher Secondary Levels and will be an equivalent of the existing master's degree. B.Ed degree is designed to cater the need of candidates who want to be an educationist but possess no background knowledge in this field. A Four years degree program provides a golden opportunity to students to gain enough knowledge in this field. Students graduated with B.Ed will be able to work decently in this field.

Department of English

The Department of English was established in 2013. The department offers BS English and M.A English programs in Linguistics and Literature. BS English is a four year program which aims at producing well- rounded young professionals with sound knowledge of linguistics and literature. M.A English is a two year program which builds sound foundation of the students and foregrounds them for research in their chosen fields of interest. The department offers a wide range of courses keeping in view the importance of both traditional and innovative trends regarding English Language and Literature. The main focus of the department is to cater to the need of the country and most specifically to the need of the state of Azad Jammu & Kashmir for English Graduates; and to provide quality education and rigorous training in the fields of English Language and Literature, Theoretical and applied linguistics and Research. In this context M.A English and BS English are the leading programs offered by the department.
